Our Mission

Our mission is to advocate for current and former military personnel and their families to ensure they receive the benefits they have earned through their service, while also supporting a strong national defense.

MOAA focuses on:

  • Protecting earned military benefits, including healthcare, pay, and retirement benefits.

  • Advocating for policies that improve the quality of life for service members, veterans, and their families.

  • Supporting transition services, career development, and financial literacy for military officers.

  • Engaging in community outreach and providing scholarships and grants for military families.

Chapter Memberships

When you’re a part of Northwestern Michigan MOAA, you’re among the community’s finest leaders. We’re an active chapter that has routine social gatherings, as well as an annual scholarship gala where we award our community’s youth funds to help them fulfill their potential through continuing education.

Here are a few important upcoming events:

  • Quarterly Membership Dinners

  • December Christmas Gala and Annual Scholarship Awards Dinner

  • Spring Pirate’s Cove Mini Golf Tournament

  • August Golf Tournament and picnic

We also are active supporters of the Grand Traverse Veterans Coalition, Mid-Michigan Honor Flight, and Reining Liberty Ranch, as well as other Veterans groups.

In addition to scholarships for deserving local High School students, we also offer support for four High School JROTC as well as three College and University ROTC programs.

Membership in the chapter is open to anyone who holds or has held a position as a Commissioned or Warrant Officer in any component of the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Space Force, Public Health Service, or National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and their surviving spouses. Chapter dues are $20 annually or $55 for three years.
